Year of Making Stuff: Week 11

Posted under Year of Making Stuff, crafts, fabric, sewing Comments Off

I found this fabric in a big panel at Goodwill and decided to make pjs.  I love a good pair of pj pants, but often can’t find any cute ones that are long enough.  The solution?  Make them!  The pattern I used was fairly easy, but I think I will have to fix the waist band in the future.  Making clothes just isn’t my calling, but these are comfy, if a little funky.  Tim is already calling them curtain pants.

Maybe if he is lucky, I will make him a pair of Cubs pjs.

Year of Making Stuff: Week 4

Posted under Year of Making Stuff, crafts, sewing 3 Comments

Thanks to a snow day, I finished my week 4 project early! During TYoMS, I am trying to use materials and supplies that I already own and not running out every week to buy new.  Reduce, reuse, recycle, right?  So using fabric I had on hand, paint from a  previous project and a stencil image from the web, I made my very own Punk Rock Apron.  The apron pattern is from Amy Butler’s In Stitches.  Since I am not an experienced sewer, it took me a little longer, but think I could do one now in 1/2 the time.  Then I made a stencil using freezer paper and a stencil image from the web and added the London Calling image.

Coasters

Posted under books, crafts, family, sewing Comments Off

This holiday I only made two gifts, a set of four coasters for my mother-in-law from Last Minute Patchwork and Quilted Gifts and a cross stitched bookmark for Ashley (which I forgot to take a picture of before I sent it).  Other than quilts (who doesn’t love homemade quilts?), I don’t know if everyone enjoys homemade gifts.  But I love the idea of a handmade pledge and the ensuing creativity, ingenious and wackiness.

Thinking

Things I think about: food, coffee, being passionate about my work, quilts, fabric, Loki, Tim, classes, going back to school, work, work, work, am I eating enough fruit, going to the farmer’s market, Web 2.0, interns, photography, SPEA, The Commission for Sustainability, recycling, living green, whether I can see the New Pornographers in concert, being a good person, travel, friends, organic food, allergies, natural leave-in conditioner, exercise, switching to gmail, having a baby someday, paint colors, books, The Clash, religion, gardening, health care, family, whether I should get new highlights, crosswords, publicity, and politics.
