Year of Making Stuff: Week 3

Posted under crafts, quilts, Year of Making Stuff Comments Off

I started this months ago, and finally sat down to finish this morning.  My first attempt at a landscape quilt, and while I don’t love it, I am glad that I finished it.  I usually expect my quilts to be used, cuddled with, thrown over a back of a chair and slept on by cats.  While I enjoy looking at art quilts, it doesn’t always appeal to me as something I would enjoy making.  This was done primarily using a pattern out of a magazine, and I’d like to try one more with my own design.

Also, Slumdog Millionaire is as good as everyone says.

Year of Making Stuff: Week 2

Posted under crafts, friends, quilts, Year of Making Stuff 2 Comments

Abby is due in April with her third girl, and some how her 2 year old (an my good friend, Sofie) snuck by without receiving one.  So for this spring, the Nool family will be receiving two girly quilts.  I think the second one will be in purple and white (with a little green) and I’ll let Mama decide who gets what.

3 Day Weekend

Posted under crafts, family, food, friends, holidays, quilts Comments Off

Every weekend should be a three day weekend.  My holiday shopping is 99% done, I finally figured out the purple fabric situation that was plaguing a future queen sized quilt, cut said fabric, wrapped presents, shipped packages, made cookie dough, watch 2 movies, did laundry, talked on the phone to friends and was able to visit Abby in Indy and hang with her two cute little girls.

Of course now I am looking at a 6 day week, but it was worth it!

Betsy Ross House Moss

Posted under Home, quilts 2 Comments

I am a failure at picking out paint color.  I never get it right on the first try.  Our bathroom is was painted a icky minty green and I’ve always disliked it.  Last weekend, I picked up a quart of a sage-ier green, but it turned out to be more of a camo color.  Enter Betsy Ross House Moss (on the right).  Finally.  I’ve still a second coat to do, but I am loving it.  And what else am I going to do on a snowy day?

I am planning on a queen sized quilt for our bedroom and have the measurements and such all worked out.  But I am having trouble finding the right purples.  I am close, but not ready yet to start sewing.

Planning Purple Squares

Posted under crafts, holidays, Home, quilts, work 1 Comment

Working Saturday screws with your entire weekend, with Friday and Sunday off.  So it never really feels like you’ve had a proper weekend.  Spent most of today organizing, shredding, sewing and planning.  I am making new slippers (the finished one is in the lower left) and planning a new queen sized quilt for our bedroom in purples and white.  The measurements are pretty much figured out, not just have to come up with a cutting plan.  There is a lot of math involved, but figuring it out gives me sastisfaction.  It also helps to know before hand if you have enough fabric.  It feels good to be planning/sewing.  I’ve had a crazy two weeks and its been super cold, so there are few new picture opportunities.

Three days of work left until Thanksgiving break!

Quilt Show

Posted under Bloomington, fabric, quilts, work 1 Comment

I worked on the committee for the Bloomington Quilters’ Guild quilt show that took place over the last two days.  I am exhausted, but it was a lot of fun and the show was a success despite the crappy rain.  I had two quilts in the show and bought some fabric for a steal at the treasure shop.

My crazy two weeks continues this coming week, and my foot hurts.  I am rooting for Thanksgiving to hurry up.

Happy Potter Quilt

Posted under family, friends, holidays, quilts 1 Comment

Its Halloween, and my pumpkin isn’t even carved.  Tim did some crazy decorations though, check his flickr page.

The above quilt is for Gina’s first girl, and even though I will see her in a week, she will have to wait for it a few more weeks as it will be shown in the Bloomington Quilters’ Guild show November 14 & 15 at the convention center.  I love how it came out, so girly and cute. She did ask for a preview, so I don’t think I am ruining any surprises here!

Thanks to everyone who sent me good thoughts, wishes and even a “oh man that sux” about the theft of my belongings earlier this week.  The picture below is me in happier times with my bag in Amsterdam, photo stolen from Andrew’s flickr pages.

Brains…

Posted under garden, quilts 1 Comment

I love how cockscomb looks like weird little brains.  I got two dried bunches of these at the Farmer’s Market today.  I know they are one of Tim’s favorites too.

I am off to update my book list and have been dutifully working on some quilts…photos to come.

Have a great weekend!

Autumn

Posted under Bloomington, family, food, quilts 2 Comments

This fall isn’t as pretty as last year, mostly because its been so dry lately.  The weather has been lovely though, so can’t compain too much.

Working on getting two quilts ready to hang in the upcoming Bloomington Quilters’ Guild show, which means sewing a sleeve on them.  Something I’ve never done before, and because it involves hand sewing, something I am dreading.  Where’s Mom when you need her?

I also made a half assed attempt for my teen anime club tonight by purchasing some vampire teeth.  And?  They don’t fit at all.  They are also made in China, so its probably a good thing as they might kill me anyway.  I did buy apples and caramel dip though.

Very Purple Catepillar

Posted under friends, quilts Comments Off

I love the texture of a quilt fresh out of the dryer, all crinkly and soft.  Normally I like the crispness of fabrics that have been line dried (even towels – I know!), but quilts love a dryer.  Baby Isabela is doing well, though the family has been a week without power in Houston.  Hope that gets fixed as soon as possible!
