Cheating
It was Tim’s idea. And you might call it cheating, but we sprinkled the felted wool Kitty Pi bed with some catnip and that is what ultimately got Loki in it.
Still with the house and getting it ready. If all goes well in the next couple of days, the house should be on the market by Monday!

It’s done! Knitted, woven, and even felted. I increased the pattern as Loki is…uh…big boned but it came out pretty much the right diameter, but is really tall. He has put a front leg into it, but has yet to really take to it. I give him a few days. This was my first knitted and felted project and it was fun. Now on to my charity hats!
In other news, vote for Brad! He was named one of the top 10 sexiest vegetarians.

This is how I always knit:

Through the back of the loop, and while I have been making hats, scarves and such it hasn’t mattered. You can’t tell by the finished product. However the more patterns I read, the more I realize that it might make a difference. Or else why would the pattern call for the different types of stitches? Maybe it doesn’t matter. I don’t know.
At least I know how to do it properly:

It just doesn’t feel as comfortable for me to do it that way. I most certainly need expert knitting help. Finally! A knitting store with actual classes, not just mean old ladies (ahemYarnBarnahem) who only say they want to help.
Speaking of classes, Tim agreed to take a yoga class with me but we have both backed out because in Kundalini Yoga, chanting is apparently involved. Thankfully I had the foresight to look it up on wikipedia before I signed us both up. Because while I want to be in shape and was excited about the prospect of taking a class together, even I agree that chanting just isn’t worth it.

Tim thinks it looks like a big rasta hat, which it sort of does at this point, but eventually it will be a kitty pi bed for Loki. Thien helped get me started since the pattern has you starting on dpns, which I’ve never done before. But all is going smoothly since I moved to the circulars, and is now just fun mindless stockinette knitting. Really this picture is looking at the wrong side, and showing all its little yarns where I’ve changed colors. All those little tails you see sticking out will eventually be woven in and the whole thing will be felted. So far kitty doesn’t seem very impressed.
As you can see from the top banner, tonights game finally came out in the Colt’s favor. Needless to say, Tim is just a little excited.

Friday, early afternoon with a cup of Chai tea, a cranberry bliss bar I made yesterday and some knitting.
The green yarn is sort of a tester. I am interested in doing some charity knitting, I’m thinking hats since even a very small sweater or similar would be out of the question based on my actual knitting ability. I have run across some options online and in the blog world, but am interested to see if anyone I know has had any experiences with donating knitted goods.

Hope everyone had a nice holiday! We are still in south Florida waiting for my parents to arrive out of Denver…tonight if everything goes well. The first few days here we had nice weather, so we’ve been to the beach and drove down to the Everglades. In the Everglades we saw lots of alligators (some even really close!) and dolphins uh, frolicking in the waters the bay just north of the gulf of Mexico on our boat tour of the 10,000 islands in the Everglades National Park. Since then we’ve had two days of rain, so had a low key Christmas day including a delicious mixed grill dinner and shopping in the rain today.
Since the rain has kept us in for the last two days, I’ve gotten lots of knitting done on my kitty pi bed, I might even be ready to felt it when I get back. Though I might need to make it a little bigger than the pattern as Loki is a husky cat (he’s just big boned, really!). We also played Euchre, which is a northern midwestern game, which Indiana people take pretty seriously and I think is designed only to confuse me!
Am thinking of my friends and family near and far. I hope all of you had the holiday of your dreams.

This time we got tricked by the weather. My parents were scheduled to fly on Friday, but haven’t yet made it out of Denver due to the huge blizzard. Their flight was cancelled for Friday, and were finally lucky enough to get their flights changed, but not until Tuesday, so we’ll just have to celebrate Christmas late. My mom and I were lucky enough to get our library shifts covered on Saturday (thanks Mimi!), and get our flights changed, so we can extend our holiday a little bit and I can show them around south Florida. Neither my mom or Andrew has been to FL before and after all that snow, I’m sure they could use a little beachy weather.
While we are missing Loki, my inlaws got a mini white schnauzer named Gabe who is very cute. We’ll have to take lots of doggy photos. Actually he is still quite a bit of a puppy with all the hilarity that ensues from that. I brought my knitting project with me and after searching down a knitting store here for the right sized circulars, it is going pretty well. There is a lot of sports on this weekend, so it will be perfect to curl up in the same room and just knit.
Today we went to the beach, saw some dolphins and ate lunch at our favorite waterside restaurant. Tomorrow? Maybe a trip to Tim’s favorite…the Everglades.

Tricked! I don’t think that it was allergies at all…but insead a cold that never left me feeling sick except for the…well…extreme congestion in my face and chest (I know you came here for phglem stories!). Still taking the claritin as a precautionary measure, but feeling much better.
I got the last of my holiday crafting done this morning…can’t put up photos until that gift is given, but I do have another holiday quilt on my flickr page that has been received and hopefully used already! After the New Year I am all set to sew Ashley’s quilt together as all the pieces are cut and ready to go (well except for I have to trim the framed blocks to 16 1/2 inches which I was all set to do the other night except for I remembered that they also needed ironing before I trimmed and the thought of plugging in the iron…was. just. too. much. after I had already ironed and trimmed 40 4 1/2 inch blocks for the inner border.). Thien also helped me start knitting a felted bed for Loki at our recent knit night at our local coffee shop/bar Ruta Maya downtown last week. That might be my project for the holidays to keep my fingers busy, though somehow, somewhere I need to track down size 11 24′ circular needles before I go too far.
The leaves on all the trees are just turning and falling, but at 80 degrees it doesn’t feel like Christmas yet!

Yay! Lily made her way into the world this weekend, and I am so excited. I can’t wait to meet all the new kiddos. I am so happy for both Lily and Niko’s parents…first timers! I know they will all be great parents.
Watched Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price this weekend. If you still shop there, you might be interested in checking out the movie or website to see what happens behind the scenes and where your money goes. Its pretty sad.
I am fighting the urge to talk more about work, which leaves me with books, the weather (still in the 90s), and quilts. I am getting ready to make a quilt for Cyn and think I have a good pattern to go with some of the fabrics we found online. I am anxious to start working on it, so am unclear why Hancock’s of Paducah took a week to cut three pieces of fabric to send. This was my first time ordering from them, and I might not be back. Though I guess the last time I ordered fabric online they send the wrong fabric…so maybe I should just stick to the local stores (of which there are actually plenty here).
Which reminds me, there are probably 8 quilting stores here, but only one independant yarn store. What with the knitting craze, you’d think SA could stand one more…a little hipper, a little more fun than the one we currently have. Anyone want to move here and open a store with me?

Yesterday it was dragonflies. Not pretty petite blue dragonflies, but big fat ugly dragonflies…swarming our yard. I’ve never seen so many! They fly around really quickly, never seeming to pause. Today? Little bitty butterflies. Everywhere. On the last stretch of my drive, I hit 10 of them. Smack. Right into the windshield. I wonder a little bit what tomorrow will bring.
Regina and I have been talking about starting our holiday knitting…and I finally figured out what I am going to do this year. I hope this isn’t eliciting groans from my friends. But I came up with a great (well, great to me) idea and actually started last night. Actually I started four times last night, once my tail wasn’t long enough for the cast on, then again when I cast on the wrong number of stitches for the pattern, then again when I realized I was using the wrong sized needles. This pattern calls for almost 100 stitches, these weren’t quick mistakes. But I finally got it right, and now just have to get busy on it this weekend and next.
Tim and I have now done the vegetarian thing for over a month (which was the original trial period), and I am thinking of not turning back. I feel great, am happy about my choice and have rediscovered my love for making food. Maybe I was in a dinner rut…but since we’ve done this, I have been pretty ambitious in my meal planning, while having fun with it. A noodle casserole that takes two hours to prepare? No problem! Making two new recipes in one night (something I never did before), piece of cake (well, an hour and a half later). I have been wanting to make sp
