The Unpackies

In the good news department, Tim made the trip with the uhaul and 98% of our stuff safely and without major problems. But as a whole, moving pretty much sucks ass. On top of that we’ve spent all day pulling up dog-pee carpet in the master bedroom and Tim’s office. The carpet men don’t arrive for another two days, so we have all of our crap stuffed into two rooms basically. Yesterday I tackled the mountain in the kitchen (see above photo)…no fun! But more or less done.

And while we can’t make a fist (tearing up carpet is killer on the hands), and we are both missing all of our San An friends, we are in BLOOMINGTON and loving it. We even got to see Bradley today for lunch at Roots, a veggie restaurant that is where Boca Loca used to be. I love this town.

Oh, and we finally have internets at the house, so we are both wired. Check back again soon…i promise!

We were looking at a house across the street that was weird and needed major work. Our realtor pointed to the cute red house on the corner and said that it had been for sale, but the owners had taken it off the market and she didn’t know why, but that it had been completely remodeled. I off handedly asked if we couldn’t just go up and knock and make an offer.

Which is in fact what we did.

And they actually accepted. We close July 13, move in Aug 1. The cute red house on the corner? Its ours!

I also heard when we were gone that I got my first choice job! We had a lucky week. I can’t believe all the good fortune we’ve had. Of course Tim likes to remind me that we’ve worked hard, which is true too.

For Sale

Posted under Home, San Antonio Comments Off

By this afternoon our house, that we’ve lived in since the Summer of 2002, will be on the market.

This was the first house either of us has owned and the house we lived in when we got married. We’ve spent 80,000 hours working on the house, what with the painting, wallpaper scraping, yard, light fixtures, shelf replacing, etc. While it isn’t really my dream home, it is a great house and we’ve had a lot of fun living here.

I hope it sells soon, as this cleaning thing sort of sucks.

Yay! I have an interview this week AND Tim got a fellowship for grad school.

Now we just need to get this house on the market. Its funny, doing some things around the house that make a huge difference (like the door, or new windows, or even some plants out front) and you wonder why you didn’t do them years ago.

Lather, Spackle, Paint. Repeat.

Other than a few closets, there isn’t a surface we haven’t painted, both inside and out. We’ve painted the living room, dining room, hallways, master bedroom, master closet, exterior, and recently the exterior door. The breakfast area and two back bedrooms? We’ve painted twice. Kitchen and master bathroom? THREE times. I have to go back to Lowes this weekend for MORE paint.

We are getting close, but my left arm is about to fall off. Good thing tonight is knit night!

More Paint

We painted our bedroom years ago Taupe 4, and loved it. So we went with what we knew and painted our living room and all hallways Taupe 3. Again with success. So when we wanted a darker brown to paint in our bedroom, we naturally chose Taupe 6. However Taupe 6 looks a less like a pretty dark brown and a little more like Fresh Shit Brown. Not pretty. And for a bathroom? A little too literal.

So now I am thinking of the chocolate brown on the right. (And yes, I am sad to be painting over the purple sponge paint. I loved how that turned out.)

Spring Fresh

Posted under Home, San Antonio, School Comments Off

The nights are still cool, but the 80 degree days mean that it is finally spring in southern Texas.

And though we’ve been planning it for over a year now, it is finally official. I keep thinking about things here as my “lasts”. This will be the last time I see tiny leaves on the red maple tree in our back yard. This will be my last mountain cedar allergy season (still on its last legs). Fiesta isn’t too far away, and it will also be my last fiesta in San Antonio.

Don’t get me wrong, while I feel slightly nostalgic about these things, I am completely excited to move…and back to Bloomington no less!

Tim will be a PhD student in Information Science this fall at IU. I am job searching, and we are getting our house ready to sell. There is lots to do, but I know this is the best decision for our family and I. CAN’T. WAIT!
