Fruity

August 21st, 2007

Is is ok to buy fruit solely on the basis that it is cute? I mean look at this little baby melon!

I stopped by the farmer’s market on my walk home from work to buy some tomatoes and couldn’t pass this up. It will be dessert after we grill a bunch of veggies that we bought last weekend at the market, including some Indiana corn.

Students are arriving en masse this week and creating “traffic”. How annoying.

We are no longer living out of boxes in our bedroom! A beautiful cherry dresser was delivered yesterday morning and we could not be more pleased. It was a little more money than we wanted to spend on a dresser, but it isn’t made out of particle board either. Real! Grown-up! Furniture!

I had a great birthday, thanks for all the wishes, texts, calls and emails!

Open Letter to Internets

August 14th, 2007

Dear Internets,

Why has thou forsaken me? I heard that one could find anything using the Google and the tubes. ANYTHING. Well, it isn’t true. In fact, it is a bunch of lies.

We are only trying to find a sofa that is 68″-72″, modern design, with arms, preferably in leather (or really anything other than the color of nubby cement or “paprika”) and less than $2,000 including shipping. Oh, and I don’t want to wait 6-8 weeks either. Should it be that hard internet? I don’t think so.

Seriously? It can’t be impossible. But, it seems that it is. Impossible.

Tomorrow I turn 32 so for the hell of it, here is a gratuitous shot of my cat (bonus points to anyone who can place the bag:

The Unpackies

In the good news department, Tim made the trip with the uhaul and 98% of our stuff safely and without major problems. But as a whole, moving pretty much sucks ass. On top of that we’ve spent all day pulling up dog-pee carpet in the master bedroom and Tim’s office. The carpet men don’t arrive for another two days, so we have all of our crap stuffed into two rooms basically. Yesterday I tackled the mountain in the kitchen (see above photo)…no fun! But more or less done.

And while we can’t make a fist (tearing up carpet is killer on the hands), and we are both missing all of our San An friends, we are in BLOOMINGTON and loving it. We even got to see Bradley today for lunch at Roots, a veggie restaurant that is where Boca Loca used to be. I love this town.

Oh, and we finally have internets at the house, so we are both wired. Check back again soon…i promise!

We were looking at a house across the street that was weird and needed major work. Our realtor pointed to the cute red house on the corner and said that it had been for sale, but the owners had taken it off the market and she didn’t know why, but that it had been completely remodeled. I off handedly asked if we couldn’t just go up and knock and make an offer.

Which is in fact what we did.

And they actually accepted. We close July 13, move in Aug 1. The cute red house on the corner? Its ours!

I also heard when we were gone that I got my first choice job! We had a lucky week. I can’t believe all the good fortune we’ve had. Of course Tim likes to remind me that we’ve worked hard, which is true too.

For Sale

May 7th, 2007

By this afternoon our house, that we’ve lived in since the Summer of 2002, will be on the market.

This was the first house either of us has owned and the house we lived in when we got married. We’ve spent 80,000 hours working on the house, what with the painting, wallpaper scraping, yard, light fixtures, shelf replacing, etc. While it isn’t really my dream home, it is a great house and we’ve had a lot of fun living here.

I hope it sells soon, as this cleaning thing sort of sucks.

Yay! I have an interview this week AND Tim got a fellowship for grad school.

Now we just need to get this house on the market. Its funny, doing some things around the house that make a huge difference (like the door, or new windows, or even some plants out front) and you wonder why you didn’t do them years ago.

Lather, Spackle, Paint. Repeat.

Other than a few closets, there isn’t a surface we haven’t painted, both inside and out. We’ve painted the living room, dining room, hallways, master bedroom, master closet, exterior, and recently the exterior door. The breakfast area and two back bedrooms? We’ve painted twice. Kitchen and master bathroom? THREE times. I have to go back to Lowes this weekend for MORE paint.

We are getting close, but my left arm is about to fall off. Good thing tonight is knit night!
