What a crazy week, and the weekend isn’t even over. Mid-week I got sick and skipped two days of work which is unheard of for me! Overlapping my days home, Tim got a sinus infection and it was a pitiful day and a half around here with several DVDs and some soup. We had tickets to Kings of Leon on Friday, and I was actually feeling better, but there wasn’t anyway Tim could go. So thanks to Steph, we unloaded those tickets, and I headed to Lotus with Jenn (which was my original plan anyway). I had a great time at Lotus, with my favorite being the Watcha Clan from Marseilles. Close second would go to either Prano Graszt from Hungary or Los de Abajo.

Today I am going to check out Kinobe & Soul Beat Africa (Ugandan song, dance and drums) in the park before I head over to my volunteer shift at Lotus. After the crappy weather yesterday, today is gorgeous!

Tim is working on fixing some steps on the side of the house, and I am putting off preparing for a book discussion that I am leading tomorrow. Maybe I’ll go and cut some more fabric. I am close to having all 2,160 pieces cut for my next donation quilt.

This quilt is a generous queen sized, and made from a heavily adapted Julie Popa pattern in the March/April 2008 Fons and Porter magazine. The wide borders are a really smooth cotton sateen fabric that is a beautiful rich purple color which was sort of hard to photograph. I am really happy with how it came out and after a quick wash it will go in our bedroom. This is the fourth quilt I’ve made for us, and I might just like this one best!

Today is New Year’s Day which means that 9 years ago I had my first date with Tim and he made me grilled cheese and tomato sandwiches and we drank rum and cokes with his roomates at his place on Prow. We had grilled cheese and tomato sandwiches again today. I’m a little tired, but couldn’t be happier.

I wish everyone a healthy, happy and hopeful 2009.

I love making lists, having projects, planning and organizing. Several years ago I started the 101 Things in 1001 Days List. I didn’t finish the list, but it was fun to push myself to do some things that I had always meant to do. Now that 2009 is approaching, I have been thinking about another project. I know people starting another 101 in 1001, or 365 portrait project. One of my teen program volunteers is reading and blogging a Les Mis in 4 Pages a Day, which should get her through the 1,000+ page book in about a year. So I am planning…something fun that would make me push myself, but not take terribly seriously either.

I am planning on a queen sized quilt for our bedroom and have the measurements and such all worked out. But I am having trouble finding the right purples. I am close, but not ready yet to start sewing.

Working Saturday screws with your entire weekend, with Friday and Sunday off. So it never really feels like you’ve had a proper weekend. Spent most of today organizing, shredding, sewing and planning. I am making new slippers (the finished one is in the lower left) and planning a new queen sized quilt for our bedroom in purples and white. The measurements are pretty much figured out, not just have to come up with a cutting plan. There is a lot of math involved, but figuring it out gives me sastisfaction. It also helps to know before hand if you have enough fabric. It feels good to be planning/sewing. I’ve had a crazy two weeks and its been super cold, so there are few new picture opportunities.

Three days of work left until Thanksgiving break!

On the first Tuesday of the month, I usually have quilt guild. Then on the second and third Tuesdays I have teen programs at the library (book discussion and anime club). So its easy enough to say that my Tuesday nights are pretty wrapped up. My city decided to add a mid-week early evening Farmer’s Market at the Westside Bloomingfoods that I walk by every single day (or ride, as of late) on my way home from work. Guess what night they picked? Yep. Tuesday. So I can almost never go! Tonight, however I was free! It was pretty quiet and although my favorite tomato guys weren’t there, I scored some beans and fresh eggs.

Despite having a chipped bone in his wrist (fricking noon ball), Tim has been working on creating a drainage system for our basement. Tonight that involved creating a cement hump in our so-called driveway. Guess who can’t mix a wheelbarrow full of concrete with a broken hand? Guess who got to do it instead? Why the big rush? Because it is supposed to RAIN. AGAIN.
