3 Day Weekend

Every weekend should be a three day weekend. My holiday shopping is 99% done, I finally figured out the purple fabric situation that was plaguing a future queen sized quilt, cut said fabric, wrapped presents, shipped packages, made cookie dough, watch 2 movies, did laundry, talked on the phone to friends and was able to visit Abby in Indy and hang with her two cute little girls.
Of course now I am looking at a 6 day week, but it was worth it!

Thanksgiving 2008

The wool slippers I made last year have bitten the dust. To be replaced by the new and improved versions with more batting and a higher cuff. Unfortunately they are also not as cute. But that is the price you pay for warm feets.
This Thanksgiving has been nice and quiet, exactly what I needed. After a leisurly morning, I prepped some food and then Tim and I went for a walk in Lower Cascades Park before full on dinner preperations began. We had deviled eggs, spinach salad, grilled portabello mushrooms, mashed potatoes, green beans and gingerbread with homemade whipped cream for dessert. Delicious!
This year, like every year, I am thankful for such wonderful friends and family. Thank you. For everything.

Planning Purple Squares

Working Saturday screws with your entire weekend, with Friday and Sunday off. So it never really feels like you’ve had a proper weekend. Spent most of today organizing, shredding, sewing and planning. I am making new slippers (the finished one is in the lower left) and planning a new queen sized quilt for our bedroom in purples and white. The measurements are pretty much figured out, not just have to come up with a cutting plan. There is a lot of math involved, but figuring it out gives me sastisfaction. It also helps to know before hand if you have enough fabric. It feels good to be planning/sewing. I’ve had a crazy two weeks and its been super cold, so there are few new picture opportunities.
Three days of work left until Thanksgiving break!

Fall Like

So I couldn’t help myself. At about 5 pm yesterday, I grabbed a beer and a knife (I know, a nice safe combo) and carved my pumpkin while I sat on the porch giving away candy. Partly I was craving roasted seeds, so it had to be done. Tim found a new recipe where you boil them first before sticking them in the oven. Only a few are left today, they were so good.
To get out of the house after my week from hell, I met up with friends last night and hit a few bars. Lots of people were dressed up, but my favorite was someone dressed up as Sarah Palin with added devil horns. Scary!
We took advantage of the beautiful weather and changing leaves today and drove out to Brown County State Park to hike around and snap some pictures.

Happy Potter Quilt

Its Halloween, and my pumpkin isn’t even carved. Tim did some crazy decorations though, check his flickr page.
The above quilt is for Gina’s first girl, and even though I will see her in a week, she will have to wait for it a few more weeks as it will be shown in the Bloomington Quilters’ Guild show November 14 & 15 at the convention center. I love how it came out, so girly and cute. She did ask for a preview, so I don’t think I am ruining any surprises here!
Thanks to everyone who sent me good thoughts, wishes and even a “oh man that sux” about the theft of my belongings earlier this week. The picture below is me in happier times with my bag in Amsterdam, photo stolen from Andrew’s flickr pages.

Swings

I love the swings. I mean I love roller coasters too, especially the crazy ones that go upside down and all of that. The there is something simple about the swings. I wasn’t sure that a swing ride could top the swings at Navy Pier. But when the carnies take a smoke break during your ride, making your swing time even longer…there is no comparison. Thankfully Suzy loves the swings as much as I do! We had a blast together this past weekend.
Also? Is it so wrong that I really want to make this? Ok, well really I want someone else to make it for me and just give me some. For my birthday maybe? You know, coming up.

Plotting

Dear St. Louis,
Watch out.
Love, Sarah
Yay! Looks like I am going to St. Louis for the 4th to visit Suzy and family. I haven’t been in years, but its always a good time. A trip to the arch is a must (we have to go every time, but can’t beat the time that those people were doing the polka in front of us in line and Abby hated riding in the egg and there is the picture of Suzy’s hand on the cow’s butt in the exhibit even though she was only demonstrating) and maybe camping!
Tim will be at home studying, but also hosting a bachelor party. Yeah!

Tricks and Treats

Tonight I was lucky enough to go trick-or-treating with a Girl Robot and a Corpse Bride. So cool! I haven’t been trick or treating since probably sophomore year in high school, when I went with Gina and gang as a skier (hey! It was snowing!) almost 20 years ago.
In other news, the IU gang is on its way here this weekend for a reunion. Beware….

Four Years

Lest you say that we weren’t meant to be together….we swore we weren’t going to get each other anything for our anniversary. Turns out we both secretly broke the rule and bought a present. Surprise! The exact same present. Gnome presents. How strange is that?
Not to get too cheesy, but four years ago today I married my soul mate. Looking back to that day and over the last couple of years, I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. No question.
Happy Anniversary Sweet Pea.
