Creepy Cute

Ack! I must learn how to crochet! Nola made me this little devil from Creepy Cute Crochet: Zombies, Ninjas, Robots and More! Seems like there are lots of crochet patterns out there for cute little critters. It reminds me of my first (failed) lesson with Roberta’s mother in San An. I had a coworker tell me she would teach me, and I might just take her up on it.
**Update**
The Smell Better Body Butter that I purchased on etsy has exceeded my expecations and then some. I love love love it. It isn’t an anti-perpirant, so doesn’t stop you from sweating but it really does stop you from smelling! Even after a couple of slightly scary presentations, I still smelled like the angel I am at the end of the day. I recommend that anyone try it!

This little guy has been a long time in the making. Can I claim that the heat of summer bogged me down? Anyway, he is on his way to Alexandria, to chill at a new home.
Baby Isa’s quilt is also done as of this morning. Just needs a wash and a photo session, then it will be on its way to Houston. Next up? Mom’s quilt.
I am about 1/2 way through Breaking Dawn. I feel like I know what is going to happen, but will continue!

Maybe its because my mom loves Gustav Baumann, or that I had just seen M.C. Escher’s early wood block prints at the museum in the Hague and loved them. But I went to the 4th Street Arts Fair here in town and was drawn to the two booths selling wood block prints. One of the artists was doing goofy prints, but the other one had fun but also beautiful ones. I told Tim I actually bought something and he didn’t believe me until I got home and had proof. I NEVER just up and buy something. And? I don’t even have buyer’s remorse. I love it.
Worked 1 out of the past 4 days, which has been nice. Still hot here though, but thinking of those affected by crazy storms. Even though it didn’t turn out too bad, I’m glad Mitch evacuated. Hoping everyone else is safe. Working on a quilt for baby girl Meouw. Here’s to hoping that she likes, no wait…that she loves purple!
Tim starts back at school tomorrow with a stats class. At least it isn’t with a certain SLIS professor, but still wish him luck anyway!

Spring birthday packages are super slow this year. I don’t even really have a good excuse, but this little guy should be in Texas by now.
I am also moving slowly since yesterday afternoon after being struck down by a mystery foot ailment. Good thing the internet is there to self-diagnose, and in the end? I just might get a new pair of sandals. Thanks internet!
I am in the initial planning stages for a quilt for my mom, so I want that to be just right. I made my very first quilt for her back in 2002 maybe? In addition to that one, there are several baby quilts that will need to be done by the end of the year. Also, books. And yes, I probably need a break from all the food themed ones.

Things I think about: food, coffee, being passionate about my work, quilts, fabric, Loki, Tim, classes, going back to school, work, work, work, am I eating enough fruit, going to the farmer’s market, Web 2.0, interns, photography, SPEA, The Commission for Sustainability, recycling, living green, whether I can see the New Pornographers in concert, being a good person, travel, friends, organic food, allergies, natural leave-in conditioner, exercise, switching to gmail, having a baby someday, paint colors, books, The Clash, religion, gardening, health care, family, whether I should get new highlights, crosswords, publicity, and politics.

This little guy arrive safely in St. Louis yesterday, so it is finally safe to post pictures. I’m not a great hand stitcher, but it was a perfect size little project from a project card I bought from wee wonderfuls. I predict there will be more in the future.
While I have to go to a meeting tonight, I have the day off work and spent pretty much all of it quilting a twin sized quilt for one of Thiên’s nieces. All I have left to do is the binding. The other top isn’t even put together, yikes! But? Its chilly and I love it! The high today is only about the mid-sixties. That is crazy after living in hot hot hot for so long.

While I am waiting for someone to show up at my door and tell me how to cut the pieces to make a 4 1/2″ square within a square block to finish Thiên’s quilt. Yeah, I know. That doesn’t seem very likely, but a girl can dream. So in the meantime, I have been busy at a few smaller projects.
I found the above piece of fabric at goodwill a few weeks ago. It was either a tablecloth or a curtain panel as the edges were hemmed nicely and there was a tag. It didn’t have a brand name, but it did say 100% cotton, so I bought. As of yesterday, a little piece of it is a tote bag. It is lined in black cotton and has a little pocket inside. Perfect for a quick trip to the farmer’s market or similar. It did come out a little shorter than anticipated, but I’ll fix that in the next round. I have enough of the fabric to maybe make another bag and an apron or similar.
One little project is on its way to St. Louis for a 1st birthday. I will post pictures once it arrives (hopefully on Tuesday). Draft snake and leaf block are on my flickr.

I barely have a minute, for I have about 200 pages of David Copperfield left to read by 6:00 pm tomorrow. Which would be fine and all, if it weren’t for pesky work to get in the way. But then, if it weren’t for work, I wouldn’t be reading David Copperfield. It was the first book chosen by my teen book discussion group. Crazy girls.
Wool felt arrived today, now I just need some more embroidery floss and I am ready for a new hand project. Just in time for football season.

Thanks to bloglines, I spend a lot of time surfing crafty blogs. There are so many creative people out there, and while my tendencies lean to quilting, I also like to knit and sew though I am fairly bad at both of those things. There are some knitting blogs that blow my k2, p2 hats out of the water, seriously. Just recently have there been some cool crafty books that have appeared, but I have always found oodles of inspiration on blogs for several years now.
Hence the trial-run pirate shirt. I saw this little elf shirt over a year ago and have been wanting to try it myself. The original plan was just to have the skull and cross bones, but I dropped the paint brush while I was working and it dribbled paint all down the front of the shirt. Now, there be ships. And a frame around the skull. Who knows if it will ever be worn (its an old undershirt of Tim’s), but I am glad I tried it. It is addictive, so planning my next shirt. Hopefully with no drips the second time.

I love having my own desk. Yes, it is primarily for sewing, but also planning, inspiration, sketching, and dreaming. I have a great chair, and a bulletin board to hang sketches, magazine cut outs, photos, and other goodies from. I have finished making all the blocks for Thien’s quilt and designed the borders using some graph paper and a fistful of green, tan and cream colored pencils. I still have to work out the calculations, so am worried about having enough fabric, but I think will turn out great and really fit the quilt style.
I also made these mary jane style slippers from a felted wool sweater found at goodwill and soft lavender sweatshirt fabric bought on clearance. They are a little wonky, and if I make any slippers again, I would do many things differently, but I love them! I am all ready for a midwest winter to pad around the house in these little cuties. If you can call size 8.5 slippers cuties.
