Happy Potter Quilt

Its Halloween, and my pumpkin isn’t even carved. Tim did some crazy decorations though, check his flickr page.
The above quilt is for Gina’s first girl, and even though I will see her in a week, she will have to wait for it a few more weeks as it will be shown in the Bloomington Quilters’ Guild show November 14 & 15 at the convention center. I love how it came out, so girly and cute. She did ask for a preview, so I don’t think I am ruining any surprises here!
Thanks to everyone who sent me good thoughts, wishes and even a “oh man that sux” about the theft of my belongings earlier this week. The picture below is me in happier times with my bag in Amsterdam, photo stolen from Andrew’s flickr pages.

Hey! Is that your bag?

So yesterday afternoon, my bag with all my personal belongings was stolen from my back office at work. Inside the bag were things like an ipod, my digital camera, a flash drive and my cell phone which will be expensive to replace. But they CAN be replaced. Expensive, but replaceable. What breaks me up even more is the little things, the sentimental things. The IU key ring that Cynthia gave me, and the polka dotted umbrella that was a gift from Thiên. A goofy coin from a recent group project and a cheap Target reusable bag that I guilted Newman into giving me. Even the wallet that was stolen was a cheap TJ Maxx wallet, but it was the wallet I bought senior year in HIGH SCHOOL after my other beloved wallet was stolen out of my car (Larissa should remember that wallet – Perry Ellis with the green flap, and Gina should remember that night…). Inside that wallet was my college ID card, that I got sophomore year with Suzy. Even that bag, a black messenger bag that has seen me through not only daily life, but also many trips back home, two trips to Europe, Mexico, Seattle, and Washington DC, where it was one of many black messenger bags at the bowling alley one night. I am sentimental about my things.
I am also pissed off, sad and tired.

Brains…

I love how cockscomb looks like weird little brains. I got two dried bunches of these at the Farmer’s Market today. I know they are one of Tim’s favorites too.
I am off to update my book list and have been dutifully working on some quilts…photos to come.
Have a great weekend!

Autumn

This fall isn’t as pretty as last year, mostly because its been so dry lately. The weather has been lovely though, so can’t compain too much.
Working on getting two quilts ready to hang in the upcoming Bloomington Quilters’ Guild show, which means sewing a sleeve on them. Something I’ve never done before, and because it involves hand sewing, something I am dreading. Where’s Mom when you need her?
I also made a half assed attempt for my teen anime club tonight by purchasing some vampire teeth. And? They don’t fit at all. They are also made in China, so its probably a good thing as they might kill me anyway. I did buy apples and caramel dip though.

Civic Duty

I took advantage of being off on a Friday to early vote at the Curry Building. I got there at 11:00am and waited for about 35 minutes, which isn’t too bad. Despite the conspiray theorist behind me, it was fun and I saw lots of people I knew in line too!
Oh, and did I mention that we got a new camera! A new SLR that we have just started trying out. Very cool…

Creepy Cute

Ack! I must learn how to crochet! Nola made me this little devil from Creepy Cute Crochet: Zombies, Ninjas, Robots and More! Seems like there are lots of crochet patterns out there for cute little critters. It reminds me of my first (failed) lesson with Roberta’s mother in San An. I had a coworker tell me she would teach me, and I might just take her up on it.
**Update**
The Smell Better Body Butter that I purchased on etsy has exceeded my expecations and then some. I love love love it. It isn’t an anti-perpirant, so doesn’t stop you from sweating but it really does stop you from smelling! Even after a couple of slightly scary presentations, I still smelled like the angel I am at the end of the day. I recommend that anyone try it!

Lotus 2008

Once again Lotus was loads of fun. I volunteered on Friday night for a free Saturday night wristband this year which was a good deal. Saw lots of cool shows including Pistolera (above), Little Cow, The New York Gypsy All Stars, La Musgaña, Jayme Stone and Mansa Sissoko, Marta Gómez, and I capped it off by dancing my heart out to Funkadesi. Well, I guess the real cap off was hitting the after party with The New York Gypsy All Stars and some really drunk members of Solas.
Now, I think I need a nap.
