Banner Year
Yay! I have an interview this week AND Tim got a fellowship for grad school.
Now we just need to get this house on the market. Its funny, doing some things around the house that make a huge difference (like the door, or new windows, or even some plants out front) and you wonder why you didn’t do them years ago.

Another Last

One of the kick off Fiesta events every year is the St. Mary’s Oyster Bake. For over 90 years, people have gathered at the university to eat oysters, funnel cake, sausage on a stick, poppers (my personal favorite), chalupas, burgers, cotton candy, pretzles and wash it all down with mass amounts of beer. This year was our last.
Tim works the information booth for one night and one extremely long day during Oyster Bake and it takes him a few days to recover.
Today made Pasta Fagioli soup (Tim’s favorite, I just skip the meat part and add in some liquid smoke…you can’t tell the difference), and need to start working on some resumes.

Lather, Spackle, Paint. Repeat.
Other than a few closets, there isn’t a surface we haven’t painted, both inside and out. We’ve painted the living room, dining room, hallways, master bedroom, master closet, exterior, and recently the exterior door. The breakfast area and two back bedrooms? We’ve painted twice. Kitchen and master bathroom? THREE times. I have to go back to Lowes this weekend for MORE paint.
We are getting close, but my left arm is about to fall off. Good thing tonight is knit night!

Open Birdcage
I meant to post something about Kurt Vonnegut, but often words fail me. I remember what it was like to be introduced to his books (probably from AJ) as a teenager, and reading his essays as an adult. However, despite being an avid reader, I don’t think I am a very good writer and I often struggle to put down exactly what I want to convey.
Then I read something that says what I wanted to say without knowing it. And I am humbled as a writer.
I have no personal connection with Virginia Tech, but I am troubled and deeply saddened by what happened there. And again words fail me.

Go Easy. Step Lightly.
Stay free. No, it isn’t a tampon ad. They are lyrics to one of the best songs by one of the best bands ever: The Clash.
Which brings up the question…if you could only listen to one song by your favorite band for THE REST OF ETERNITY what would it be?
AJ came to visit over Easter weekend and we did nothing but eat/drink and talk about bands, movies, books and travel. C’est tout. Really. Oh, well we went to Houston and saw a game and the French Masters from the Met exhibit at the MFAH.
p.s. White Man in Hammersmith Palais. Hands down my favorite song by the Clash EVA-H!

More Paint
We painted our bedroom years ago Taupe 4, and loved it. So we went with what we knew and painted our living room and all hallways Taupe 3. Again with success. So when we wanted a darker brown to paint in our bedroom, we naturally chose Taupe 6. However Taupe 6 looks a less like a pretty dark brown and a little more like Fresh Shit Brown. Not pretty. And for a bathroom? A little too literal.
So now I am thinking of the chocolate brown on the right. (And yes, I am sad to be painting over the purple sponge paint. I loved how that turned out.)
