I realize that a)most of the books I read this year weren’t actually published in 2004, but these awards are for the best books I read this year. Cutouts, Quilts, Gifts, Oh My

With everyone coming here for Christmas, we are in full holiday mode. All the decorations are out (maybe some additional wait for us at Target), lights are hung outside, tree is up, skirt is purchased (and none too quickly for Loki has a new favorite spot) and soon to come…yard art! I nixed Tim’s request for blow up lawn ornaments, so he decided to make his own. We cut and painted characters from Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. Gracing our lawn this holiday will be Rudolph, the Abominable Snowmonster, Sam the Snowman (Tim’s favorite), and Yukon Cornelius. Photos will be taken and hopefully will be up soon.

I am working on finishing touches on the holiday quilts and wrapping up my year long Block of the Month quilt. In the block of the month quilt, I made 12 12″ blocks that I will piece together to make a full sized quilt for the guest bedroom. I remade one block that I didn’t really like, and am pondering remaking another one. Now that I have gone through a year of this, I am feeling more confident about working on one for next year…coming up! I also recently had a quilting breakthrough on a quilt top that I was working on…and finished the top part as I was unsure of what/how to do the borders. Yellow. The answer was yellow. And now that the top is done, it looks great. Just have to sandwich it together.

Just started Pox: Genius, Madness, and the Mysteries of Syphilis
by Deborah Hayden last night. So far so good. Getting close to naming Sarah’s Favorite Book of 2004, though I think we all know what probably will come out on top. I have been updating the book list as I go pretty much, so you can always check that out as well. Maybe I will have to do Sarah’s Worst Book too, though there is also a shoe-in for that one too.

Not to rub it in, but I am pretty much done with my holiday shopping. Just getting ready to box stuff up to send. I hope everyone is having fun shopping and decorating as we are.
