Turkey Day

Posted under family, holidays Comments Off

I love not being at work. Both Tim and I had 4 day weekends for Thanksgiving…so nice. Tim made a turkey with roasted veggies, rolls and I made green beans with bacon and my first attempt at gravy. What with the wine and my early bike ride against the wind, I crashed almost immediately after. Though did rouse myself for a movie…we saw Finding Neverland, which was really good. And with the relaxing over, we set to work for the rest of the weekend. Tim finished tiling the laundry room, and while it looks wonderful I don’t think he is going to ever tile anything again ever. I painted the office a lovely shade of orange (which knocks another thing off my 101 list). Since that didn’t seem like enough work, we also got out our Christmas decorations, including a new tree. So the house looks lovely, but we are tired. Will take some pictures soon.

I did pick up a new book at the library on Friday since I tore through Bel Canto (loved it loved it loved it). I got Oracle Night by Paul Auster…so far so good. I read the New York Trilogy by him several years ago and liked it enough to give to my brother (the ultimate test), and this one is really good so far. I can’t stop smiling thinking that Auster is messing with me though.

FCC Fiasco

Posted under misc Comments Off

I was a history major for one reason, I prefer the research to the actual writing. Those of you who know me, know that I am pretty passionate about different things. However, I don’t always feel confident about expressing what I mean and why. Check out one of Tomato Nation’s recent post (warning: language). Amen sister.

Pictures of the bunny and the new china cabinet are up for those of you interested. And while I refuse to say the word boring, I am sloooooowly getting through Locust, hoping to be done with it soon. I do want to finish it though, and get to the possible answer to the riddle of the extinction of the Rocky Mountain (Locust spretus). Also trying to finish up the last little part of the holiday quilts before I can quilt free move on to other projects.

Big Head Bunny

Posted under books, crafts Comments Off

Ah, President’s Day, I hardly knew ye. Working for the city doesn’t always have its perks, but we do get the holidays. Tim had to work, I didn’t. I spent the day being crafty. I made one surprise gift (which I hope fits), one and a half froggy sleeping bags (also gifts), and a Big Head Bunny. I found the craftster website where I found directions to make simple stuffed animals. So cute. Armed with some bargin Joann’s fabric, I tried out a bunny. He is a little long and skinny with a big head, but cute in a lopsided kind of way. I think I will make him a scarf, and he will find a new home with Lily on Saturday. It was fun, and feel confident about trying it again soon. Find myself getting into this, and possibly other crafts, but my heart still belongs to quilting. I have about 30 minutes left on my last Christmas one! Yay. Thinking already about Commission #1.

Still sort of dragging my way through Locust. Feeling better about it, but haven’t really found too much time to get a good chunk read. Thought about it today, but the bunny took longer than I planned and I also had to get a bike ride in. Eek! November is half over almost, so I better get reading. On the movie front, Tim and I watched Super Size Me this past weekend. It was great, really interesting and digusting. I love McDonalds french fries, but I am not sure when I will be able to eat them again. If you do happen to watch it, check out the Bonus feature called ‘The Smoking Fry’. Eeeeewww!

Shock

Posted under misc Comments Off

I am in shock (not awe) on this day after the Election. I am, as Regina put it, really too sad to even talk about it. I liked this article about The Great Divide.
